heh, i liked her when i first watched season 1; then i rewatched and lost my respect for her. Sorry. :D I try to treat her gently when she shows up in my fic...
What made you lose your respect for her? I mean, so much you call her a whore and a cow today? That implies some stronger emotions, like hatred for her, and I honestly don't think she did anything bad enough to deserve hatred.
Well, for one thing, this is a macro set and it's meant to draw caricatures. She's no more a whore than Noah Bennet is God or Mohinder is a prophet, but it's humor. Exaggeration. Also playing off the fan emotion. I ship Matt/Mohinder, so when I'm doing serious slash, I try to treat her respectfully. Cf. Kiss #11 (http://tiptoe39.livejournal.com/455525.html#cutid1) or A Simple Twist of Fate (http://tiptoe39.livejournal.com/534374.html#cutid1) or even the epilogue to Unexpected (http://tiptoe39.livejournal.com/436978.html#cutid1). But I'm not going for serious here. If you can't see that, or think I'm some sort of hopeless mysoginist, I can't help you. I really didn't expect to get called out on a macro set of all things.
As for what made me lose respect for her, well, I must admit I got very angry with her for throwing the phone at him. I thought that was violence, and violence to me in a marriage is clearly out of bounds. And she did cheat on him, and she in general was very selfish, I thought, and not very understanding of the fact that her husband was going through something that required some understanding. Not just big things, but little ones as well. Maybe she was not written well, maybe she was written by guys and that was the problem, but in the end, i felt like they hurt each other, and I felt like he was trying so hard but couldn't do anything right in her eyes. He made loads of mistakes too but ... that's how I felt.
sorry. hee hee. this is what happens when you let a girl read academic shit without telling her not to use said academic shit in blog posts. i go to special hell.
I know it's humour, really. But fandom has sensitised me for this misogyny thing, and I get a little annoyed by it - especially because it's so prelevant in fandom, bashing female characters, especially if they aren't of the perfect body type... There are some things I just do not find funny, like making jokes of gender, race, weight...
As for what made me lose respect for her, well, I must admit I got very angry with her for throwing the phone at him. I thought that was violence, and violence to me in a marriage is clearly out of bounds.
If my memory serves right, that was when she was on the phone with the police, worried sick because Matt had disappeared without a trace? Then she saw Matt wake up on the couch, and it really looked like Matt had simply been drinking way, way too much
You really blame Janice for an angry gesture in this moment? What should she have done? "Aww, poor wooby, let me run you the bath water and make you some coffee like the good little wife I am, not going to question your life style, dear husband"? I'd find that bewildering.
And she did cheat on him
And she was sorry about it, admitted it and promised to stop. By which I do not mean to excuse her actions in that regard, but it's weird how people keep bringing this one up when it comes to Janice. While Nathan gets off the hook completely, even though he cheated on his disabled wife, lied about it to her face and never even acknowledged that he did something wrong... I hope you also hate Nathan, else it's just a weird double standard.
and she in general was very selfish, I thought, and not very understanding of the fact that her husband was going through something that required some understanding.
I really don't think she was any less understanding of Matt than Matt was of her. Remember, their marriage problems started before Matt's power manifested. Even before that, there was a lot of tension, probably mostly due to Matt's frustrating job situation. He failed his exams several times and was too stubborn to just tell someone he had dislexia. Meanwhile, Janice was a successful lawyer.
Their problems are not all about Matt's powers and her reactions to them, really. If you think her role in the series should have been to inconditionally do what he says and comfort him and make his plight as easy for him as possible, you have a very strange, or simply old-fashioned idea about what a wife is supposed to be.
Sorry, I know, it's your funny macro post, and not the right place for serious business, but it's just something that's been bothering me for ages, and your comment there really made me boggle in places.
Jesus. Wow. Yeah. You know what? Go ahead and consider me a freaking misogynist. I just got through one week of internet drama and I can. not. take. more. It was humor. Don't like it? Don't laugh. Report me to fandom_wank. Whatever.
But none of the things that you seem to infer I'm thinking here are the things I'm actually thinking. And I'm absolutely offended by your implication that they are, or that I think wives should just sit there and do whatever their husbands want, or whatever. But I'm at work and I don't have time to get into a flame war with you over the marital problems of fictional characters.
Fandom_wank does not work that way, as far as I know.
But none of the things that you seem to infer I'm thinking here are the things I'm actually thinking.
I can't read your thoughts, I can only go by the things you have written in these comments. If they aren't what you actually think, then why do you write them in the first place?
Bwaha, these are hilariously awesome. The last two especially.
"Thou shalt nawt keel?....Well shit." XD That would SO be Momo right there (since he did have that "well shit" devastation look on his face after he shot Bennet).
