WAFFathon 2012 Official Thread
Welcome, everyone, to the fourth official WAFFathon, making the Internet a little happier. The premise behind the WAFFathon is simple: Fandom is great, but let's face it, it can get pretty dark around here at times. Not to mention that it rains absolute CRAP on the characters we most love. So to make their not-quite-canon lives a little better, and to increase the per-capita volume of Warm and Fuzzy Feelings (WAFF for short) on these here intertubes, the WAFFathon has arrived!
This year I'm upping the ante by putting my money where my WAFF is... see more behind the cut!
How to Play:
1) Comment with a fandom, a pairing, and a prompt. Your prompt can be specific, general, vague, cryptic, silly, goofy, OOC, AU, sexy, anything you like, so long as it brings a little sunshine in the end.
2) Find a prompt you like and make something fluffy and feel-goody out of it. Fanfic, fanart, manips, icons, vids, fanmixes, motis and macros, and anything else creative are all welcome. Adult content is also welcome, but remember that the goal is to be WAFFy!
3) Post it (or a link to it) in the comments.
4) Watch people's lives light up!
The Rules:
1) Provide lots of encouragement to the creators. Feedback. Compliment. Hug. Friend. Mem. It's good karma.
2) This meme will be very lightly policed, but policed it will be. So behave. No trashing of others, fandoms, ships, chars, stories, or the meme writ large will be tolerated. Friendly concrit or suggestions are fine, but keep in mind that we are trying to make people happy, not insecure. As your Moddess Goddess(TM), I reserve the right to do what I feel I need to do. Which I hope will be nothing, but which you are hereby forewarned can change depending on my very mercurial mood. So... like I said. Behave.
3) I have no end date in sight for this meme, but I suggest keeping it a weeklong activity.
4) You are more than welcome to crosspost your creative works wherever you like. It should go without saying that taking someone else's work and passing it off as your own elsewhere is unacceptable by any definition. I refer folks to
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
Make the world even happier!
A couple of extra things you can do if you want to make everyone happier:
1) Readers/viewers: If you find an author/creative person you like, go back through their other works and comment on them, or rec their works on your journal. Creative people love feedback and it's especially gratifying when you get feedback on something you thought was lost to time and when someone likes your work enough to recommend it to his or her friends.
2) Creators: be sure to thank readers for their time and energy spent on your work. Friend them if they've friended you or recced you. One of the great things about fan-creative communities is the proximity you can have to the people you admire and respect. We don't get to have conversations with Joss and Kripke and the rest, but we can talk to each other and that's even cooler.
3) Pimp this meme to any friends or communities you think would be interested. You can find banners and code at the Banner Thread. Hotlink your little hearts out!
4) If you're feeling really encouraged, please consider making the world a better place on behalf of the fandom community.

DONATE!
ASPCA * Random Acts * International Committee of the Red Cross * America's Second Harvest * Humane Society International * UNICEF * American Cancer Society * Oxfam * Amnesty International
THIS YEAR I WILL BE DONATING $1 FOR EVERY COMMENT THE WAFF-A-THON RECEIVES, BE IT A PROMPT, A FILL, OR FEEDBACK, UP TO A $500 MAXIMUM!
I will split the money evenly among Random Acts, the ASPCA, and the Red Cross. Make me too poor to attend DragonCon this year :) (Please note that your comment has to be a genuinely happifying comment in order to count toward the total!)(I know we're all poor in fandom, but we're actually very rich!)
5) Tell someone you love today how much you care for and appreciate them, and remember: Happiness is a completely renewable energy source!
THANKS TO...

...YOU! for reading and writing!
Fill! 1/3(hopefully) - Grace
Date: 2012-03-11 06:43 pm (UTC)But right now, Danno's back in New Jersey, in Ho-bo-ken-in-Jersey-City with Grandma and Pap and Aunt Louise and Aunt Natalie. Danno'd sat her down to explain about how Aunt Louise got really sick and he had to go visit her and help her get better.
Grace had looked at him and said, "I know what cancer means, Danno." And Danno had looked really sad for a moment before giving her a hug and saying, "Yeah, I guess you do, Monkey."
So, Danno was back in New Jersey with Grandma and Pap and Aunt Louise and Aunt Natalie and Grace was still here in Hawaii, where Uncle Steve and Aunt Kono and Uncle Chin all stopped by every day to see her and talk to her. So, she sees it when Uncle Steve comes back from talking to Mommy and he looks sad, like Danno did before he left.
He doesn't tell her what's wrong, but Grace wants to fix it. Danno makes Uncle Steve smile, but Danno's in New Jersey and Grace is here. She just needs a plan.
Two days later, she raises her hand in class when the teacher asks if any of them would be willing to adopt a kitten. She takes the forms to Mommy when she gets home and explains, "It's for Uncle Steve. He needs something to make him smile while Danno's gone."
And Mommy looks at her for a moment before smiling and saying, "Your father can be very slow sometimes," which doesn't make sense, but she signs for the kitten, so Grace doesn't think about it too much.
That weekend is supposed to be a Danno weekend, but Danno's in New Jersey. Mommy and Step-Stan are busy though and nobody Mommy calls is available to take her for the whole weekend. "What about Uncle Steve?" she suggests Friday afternoon and Mommy sighs, but doesn't say anything as she dials the phone once more.
"Commander McGarret? This is Rachel Edwards. ...I'm doing fine, thank you. Actually, I had a favor to ask..."
So, Grace will be staying at Uncle Steve's house on the beach, in his siter's old bedroom, which is painted blue and pink and there are really neat things on the dresser. Grace spends the ride over holding the box with the kitten carefully, reaching in to pet it at stoplights. It's grey and it has blue eyes that remind Grace of Danno. She hopes Steve likes it.
Fill! 2/3 - Steve
Date: 2012-03-11 06:44 pm (UTC)But when he opens the door Saturday morning, it's to see Grace holding up a ball of grey fur with blue eyes and saying, "It's for you, Uncle Steve. To make you smile." And Steve stands there for a moment, utterly lost, before he manages to smile and take the kitten, which starts purring up a storm as soon as he's got it in his hands.
Grace beams at him before darting past him and up the stairs, one pink bag clutched in her hand. Rachel smiles apologetically at him. "I'm sorry. She wanted to do something to cheer you up while Danny's away. Please do not feel like you have to keep it; we have plenty of space at home and I understand you may not want it."
Steve nods, then makes the mistake of look at the small creature he was holding. Blue eyes blink up at him and Steve doesn't realize he's smiling until he catches Rachel smiling back.
"Should I go get the supplies, then?" she says.
"Uh, yeah. Yeah, go ahead. I'll just,--yeah. Do you need any help?"
"I think I can manage," Rachel says dryly, glancing down at where Steve's holding the kitten with both hands. "And also, Steven? He's a bit obtuse about these things. I'd recommend something obvious."
And then she's gone, leaving him still holding the purring kitten that Grace had apparently deemed good enough to be a stand-in for Danny.
The weekend goes smoothly, all things considered. He nearly has a heart attack four separate times when he realizes the kitten has disappeared, only to find it curled up in his sock drawer and fast asleep or pouncing on dust bunnies in the closet. Grace at least keeps in sight and has the presence of mind to tell Steve if she's going anywhere that's not somewhere Steve can follow.
Saturday evening, Steve invites Chin and Kono over for a barbecue and he almost expects it to be odd, having Grace there without Danny. But it's easy, like Danny's just stepped out of the room for a minute and trusting Steve to watch his daughter in his stead. Steve rather likes the way the thought makes him feel, all warm and terribly proud that Danny would have that sort of trust in him.
The kitten wins over Chin and Kono almost instantly and spends the evening being indulged with one or the other of them playing with it, tossing balls and dangling strings.
It's probably the most relaxed Steve's been in the two weeks since Danny left for New Jersey and he falls asleep to the thought that the only thing that would have made it better was if Danny had actually been there.
Monday morning, Steve takes Grace to school, drops her things off at the Edwards house and goes to work, where he spends most of the day following leads on a small-time drug ring. He's in the middle of reading one of the perps his rights when he remembers and he looks at Kono.
"I've got to feed the kitten," he says and Kono stares at him for a moment before grinning and waving him away.
"Go, feed the cat. I'll finish up here and you can meet us back at HQ."
The next week and a half fall into a similar routine, with Steve taking off like clockwork during the day to feed the cat before returning to work. Evenings are spent on the couch, watching whatever's on and imagining what Danny would have to say about the Nets' loss on Tuesday as he pets the kitten.
Fill! 3/4(dangit) - Danny
Date: 2012-03-11 06:46 pm (UTC)He'd told everyone that his flight was getting in tomorrow, had hoped to go straight to his apartment and sleep for twelve hours straight. But the taxi he takes stops in front of a familiar house, not his apartment, and Danny figures that Steve's couch is probably just as comfortable as his bed anyway and pays the driver.
It's still early evening and Danny doesn't expect Steve to actually be home yet--apparently, Super SEAL doesn't need to sleep or something, if the hours he puts in at work mean anything--but he knocks anyway. HE's about ready to go locate the extra key and let himself in when the door opens and Steve's standing there, something fuzzy tucked in one arm.
"Danny?"
"Hey, babe," Danny drawls and geez, he must look like crap if Steve's got that face on. Danny can't quite remember what name he gave this one. "Planes suck. Is your couch comfortable?"
Steve blinks, but steps aside and Danny stumbles in, suddenly feeling the last fourteen hours. "Yeah, I think it is," Steve says. Danny's not sure what he's talking about. "Danny are you--"
"Sleep," Danny says firmly. "I need sleep. And Steve--" He turns, intending to say something, but his suitcase is right there and he trips. He lands on Steve, at least, and not the floor and Steve has one arm around his shoulders and manages to stay upright, which is good. And he's warm and oddly comfortable, for being a guy with muscles. "Oh. I think I'll just sleep here, okay?" Danny mumbles.
Steve laughs, vibrating against Danny. "I think we need to get you into bed," he says and Danny would agree, except he's comfortable and way too tired right now. "Come on, upstairs. I've got something way better than a couch."
Somehow, they make it upstairs without Danny actually falling asleep, but he doesn't quite get his tie off before he falls onto the bed. Something tugs at his neck, then his feet, but Danny's mostly gone and doesn't even open his eyes. The feel of something walking up his back rouses him enough to lift his head and peer blearily over his shoulder, though.
"Whassat?"
"Cat," Steve explains. "C'mere, you." And the small points of pressure disappear and the light's out and Danny's gone gone gone.
Fill! 4/4 - Danny
Date: 2012-03-11 06:46 pm (UTC)The vibrating thing turns out to be a kitten, a puffy grey fur and a voice like a lawnmower. He pets it for a moment, wondering where it came from, before he thinks to investigate the warmth at his back.
Steve looks almost innocent when he sleeps and the pale sheets look good against his tanned skin.
"Oh, god," Danny says.
Steve opens his eyes and smiles. "Hey, Danno." His voice is all deep and sleep-rough and Danny's really not sure about the dreaming thing anymore, because this is the stuff of dreams, not real life.
"Steven," he says, because he may be dreaming, but he's still him, "why am I in your bed? No, scratch that, why am I in your bed with a cat?"
"You got in late last night. The cat's from Grace." Steve yawns and stretches and Danny's really, really hoping this is a dream, because if this is real, it just might kill him.
"From Grace? Grace gave you a cat?" he asks as the cat in question scrambles over him to purr in Steve's face.
Steve smiles and scratches behind the kitten's ears. "Yeah. She wanted to give me something to make me smile while you were gone."
"While I was--Aww, Steven, did you miss me?" Danny means it as a tease, as part of their normal banter, but he's in Steve's bed and it comes out a bit softer and more, well, intimate than Danny had intended.
And when Steve smiles at him, all sleep-slow and gentle and hair sticking every which way on the pillow, Danny feels his heart do something weird in his chest.
"Steve--"
"So I was thinking," Steve says and Danny bites back the automatic response. Steve scoops the kitten up and deposits it on the floor and somehow gets closer in the process. This is really not good for Danny's health. "Rachel said something, and Grace with the kitten, and then you showed up here and--"
"Is this going somewhere anytime soon?" Danny asks, because he has to do something normal or risk doing something stupid. "Because you sound a lot like you're just throwing words together and hoping they make sense."
Steve scowls at him. "You--oh, screw this."
And then Danny's positive he's dreaming, because Steve doesn't kiss him in real life, doesn't run his hands over Danny's shoulders and down his back, doesn't pull back just far enough to mutter, "God, I missed you," before diving right back in.
It's got to be a dream and Danny likes dreams, because in dreams, he can kiss back, can thread his fingers through Steve's hair, can feel the solid press of Steve's chest against his own.
He can feel something soft wriggle in under his chin and start to purr.
Danny pulls back, because kittens did not feature in any of his dreams, as far as he knew, and Steve's lying there, hair mussed and smiling and, "This isn't a dream."
Steve snorts. "Not unless we've figured out how to have shared dreams, no."
"Then," Danny takes a moment, for once, to think things through. "Then the cat has to go. Off the bed, out of the room, something. Because what I am going to do to you I cannot do in the presence of small, fuzzy animals."
