tiptoe39: a girl with magical powers should never be taken lightly (broken cas)

1) The opening was awesome, I actually screamed when the garage door came down on that guy's head.

2) Bobby, your research would go faster if you would drink a stimulant instead of a depressant. Try some coffee?

3) Aw, nice to see them do Rock Paper Scissors again, but has Sam forgotten that Dean ALWAYS plays scissors?

4) Bobby is being epically bitchy, but at least he took my advice on the coffee.

5) LOL @ Bumblebee.

6) Even knowing the mindfuck was coming, it was a good mindfuck. And I would like Ellen to make me stew with beer and carrots, and take care of me when I'm sick, OK?

7) Is it just me or did Dean and Sam's voices go down another octave? They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Jensen you better not be smoking, boy.

8) OK, Fate? Is Becky on steroids and I love her.

9) And now I know how I lost my phone. Fate clearly stopped time and misplaced it in a misguided attempt to kill me. But I was too clever for her, and that's when she put it right back.

10) "It made me want to smite myself" is going to be my new go-to phrase.

11) IT'S CANON, BITCHES.

12) I also think Dean's a little less good at bullshitting in this universe. Not quite sure why but he just doesn't seem to have the smoothness thing down.

13) I need a gif of that moment when Fate sort of turns to the camera and smiles. She was awesome.

14) Something about Cas saying the word "dangle" amuses me :D

15) "I'm trying to keep the ones I have."
+ meaningful look....
Oh. DEAN. Oh, CAS.

16) I really liked the extended scene of Cas working with the guys, strategizing with them... it felt right, it felt good. Very OT3-y. XD

17) Sort of took Bobby in this episode to be "the writers dealing with Rufus' death without having to really deal with it." So we don't see Bobby mourning in the real world because that'd be harder to write than Bobby bouncing his grief off Ellen. So sort of a cheat, but I can appreciate.

18) Despite all the sex appeal in this show, when it features its older characters, it really does right by them. There's such reality to those scenes. Bobby, Rufus, Ellen, the others.... I just think they're nicely written.

19) OK. So I have a story to tell. It's July 2010, it's Sunday of NJCon and I'm first in line at the mike for Misha's second panel. I ask him the following question:

"In the last episode of the fifth season, Cas asks Dean a question: Which would you rather have: peace or freedom? And that line really struck me as being a question that Cas himself is pondering. Do you think that's a question he will have to deal with in the coming season?"

Misha's response was yes, but it's not the main question. The main question was, "Do the ends justify the means?"

But today. Tonight. In this episode, he answered it. He said, Freedom is more preferable.

Thus I am happy. :)

20) So wow, a lot of new information and a lot of things that tie together. Souls power Cas' army. Death had said it was about the souls. Some speculation below. For now I'm just going to say that I thought the scene between Cas and Fate was really powerful and brought up a lot of mysteries without saying a great deal. It was great because it advanced the plot but at the same time the focus was really on the characters and their choices. Cas showed a lot of emotion, and Fate was believable, and they were both badass.

21) And then, watching Cas lie to the boys' faces... and to save face, not even for a greater good but to avoid his own embarrassment... oh, Cas, you're falling from grace and you're falling hard, but it just makes me feel for you more. I don't think you have an innate sense of the importance of human souls, not outside of the few that you've grown to care for. And the problem is, they do, and they're gonna hold it over your head when they realize you're carrying their banner while you make your deals with crowley the devil.

I really felt for Cas because he really wants the boys to know it's because of what THEY taught him that he's doing whatever he's doing -- but in the end, that's going to hurt them the most, because they'd never want those atrocities to be committed in their name.

22) And then Dean takes care of Bobby.... just... such a perfect way to end the episode.

23) SO. SPECULATION. Cas is fighting to preserve the freedom of everyone to choose their own destiny. So here's my thought - what if he has been trying to get to purgatory to use the souls THERE for his cause? Thus being in cahoots with Crowley. Or maybe I wish too much. :)

24) I'm really interested in how desperate Cas is right now. It shows how human he's become. And it's going to be interesting because he's showing these human emotions, and caring about certain specific humans, but that doesn't mean he really understands the value of humans in general. He's still an angel.

25) Scoob70 pointed out - why then was Cas so eager to make sure Sam's soul stayed away? What does Sam know about what Cas has done but that wall is holding it in? Yikes. Or what if the damage to Sam's soul wasn't even done by Lucifer and Michael? What if Sam's soul has been used by Cas for energy, in a sort of Matrix thing? Hmmm.

26) As much as this is sure to bring tons of angst, it seems to me that this turn of events could actually serve to bring TFW closer. I mean, Cas has always been a little reserved, removed from Sam and Dean by dint of his lack of emotionality. Now that he's really human, there's room for some relationship growth there.

And sure, there will be hurt and betrayal. But come on, betraying each other is practically a rite of passage round here. Hell, this pretty much makes him an unofficial Winchester. :D

Have at it, kids!

I loved Dean taking care of Bobby, it seems like exactly the kind of thing he'd have done for John when they were all still together <3 Dean's such a darling mother hen at times.

With Cas, I'm not sure I understand your line of speculation re: Sam's soul, but I very much agree that Cas is falling. I hope he wins, but I also hope he falls from Heaven, because that place is not good for him. He's all very much 'bigger picture', which was kind of the problem with angels re: the whole apocalypse thing in the first place.

He's trying his best though, and like he said, he can't afford the luxury of morality or guilt because he's fighting a war, and he has to win. He has a big weight on his shoulders right now, but unlike Dean last series he doesn't have that innate sense of right and wrong, he wants to have it, but he has to put it to one side if he wants to win.

Sadly, the cost of freedom is always high.

There are more than a few technical points I have on lore, but they pale in comparison to the fact that IT'S CANON. DEAN/CAS IS FUCKING WELL CANON.

I got an "I love you" moment between my boys on White Collar in their S2 finale, and now Cas has been outed as loving Dean. We're so close to actual canon slash that I can barely contain myself.

20 reminds me of something. Atropos (who is a Greek Goddess not one of YHWH's childer, BTFW Show!) said "You can't mint money" when they were talking about the souls. That strikes me as not being a metaphor. Which means souls are some kind of currency in the war. Not sure how that'll translate.

Also, in the alternate timeline, were angels that had been killed brought back? And is it possible, in any way, that their recreation could have survived the re-sinking?

I'm calling this an alt timeline instead of a 'verse because to me, 'verses are separate places in space, whereas this was the same space just running off a different chain of events.

I've been saying Cas was cahooting w/ Crowley for months now; their exchanges seemed a little forced to be completely impromptu. And Sam's definitely got a bombshell buried behind that wall.

I really hope they start tying things together by the finale. It's gonna be a cliffhanger, and I'd like S7 to run a lot smoother than this one has.

Ooh, that's interesting re: the souls thing. I was wondering how souls could power a war, but that works. I mean, souls must have some sort of value because Balthazar collects them too and he wouldn't want them if they weren't worth anything.

Also, does all of Cas' regrettable actions mean that he has embraced ends justify means? Dean's gonna be pissed!

Hell, this pretty much makes him an unofficial Winchester. :D

Absolutely!

It's also a little heartbreaking to see Cas more beaten down at full-on angel than he was when he was losing his grace.

Yeah, but back then he wasn't waging a war against his brothers. That's gotta weigh on you.
