I suspected at the end of the last chapter that Maya was emitting the Shanti virus, but assumed it was due to something the Company had done to her, rather than a natural manifestation of her ability. The idea that she and Alejandro had the same powers as Shanti and Mohinder, it just makes so much sense...
I've always liked the idea of Mohinder having the potential to be one of the specials. My personal pet theory is that Mohinder was supposed to be special, but Chandra played around with his DNA as a fetus so he would produce the antibodies for the virus.
